You’ve probably seen this being hyped up on social media a lot recently with Discovery Channel planning the event for it’s annual ‘Shark Week’. The retired Olympian swam a stretch of open ocean in South Africa in a rapid 38.1 second, beaten just by the shark’s 36.1. In order to level the playing field slightly, Phelps was allowed to swim with a monofin.
The catch is however, that he didn’t really race a shark. Nope. Instead he pitted his nerve against a computer generated simulation. It’s fair to say that fans were certainly not impressed.
Nevertheless, it’s still an impressive feat from the record breaking swimmer. Be sure to stay up to date here at Menliness for more sport based news.
