We knew that the S8 (much like its S-series predecessors) would be getting its own ‘Active’ alternative soon, however, thanks to Reddit, we now know much more about the new S8 varient pre-release than tech-giants Samsung had anticipated.
With a military standard certification and increased battery life, the new model’s prototype would be ideal for more, outdoors-y users as well as the younger generation of tech savvy-kids, however, the new model is phone-lovers scratching their heads, as the new variant does not feature some of the S8’s signature features.
Although the Active is software-wise, identical to the original S8 (with a Snapdragon 835 CPU, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of in-built storage), it lacks the coveted S8’s Infinity display (most likely sacrificed in the name of increased durability) and, on a similar note, the OG S8’s sleek design has been compromised by dense padding – making the device 1.5 times larger.
The Active has also laid waste to the Active-series’ re-mappable Active key with a fixed Bixby-powered button – which has, similar to the S-voice feature, had many mixed reviews within the smartphone community, due to internal errors/bugs.
There is currently no release date set for the latest addition to Samsung’s Active series, and it must be noted that this information is based on a leaked prototype, not a final version set for general release.
